Last year, USD 465 announced that Taher had been selected as the new food service provider for the school district. Students and staff were prepared for growing pains as the new provider took over. However, more than a year later, many students are still not happy with their school lunch experience.
“It’s terrible and the process is slow,” freshman Keaton Smith said. “I think it would be better if it was real food.”
Other students shared the same opinion, stating that the food tastes boiled and that we need real chefs.
“[It’s] not that good, it needs more seasoning,” sophomore Sebastian Fugere. “We also need real chefs.”
More and more students now bring their lunches from home.
“I bring sack lunches for that reason because it’s that bad, and they are small portions,” sophomore Jake Curran said.
Staff members often eat school lunches. Jay Hill, social studies teacher, tries to be patient with the new provider.
“I think that there are good days and there are bad days,” Hill said. “I feel like the main option could be better.”
Hill also suggested that they should cater the food choices more towards students so that they enjoy what they are eating.
Taher did not reach out despite our attempts to communicate with them.
