FCA is a club that stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. FCA consists of a growing group of students that meets every Wednesday before school, at 7:20 a.m. The Winfield FCA chapter is led by Ashley Norris and Jason VenJohn.

“The goal for FCA is to help students with their fellowship in a safe place with other students who have similar beliefs,” Norris said.

Established in 1954 in Norman, Okla., FCA has become a welcoming space for students to connect over their faith and interests in athletics. This vision is what fuels Norris’ passion for the group. She revealed that her involvement began when a student approached her about starting an FCA chapter, igniting her desire to support students in their faith journey.

JVenJohn shares a similar passion.

“The goal is to help kids with their faith, bringing high school students together,” Venjohn said.

FCA is growing at WHS, but VenJohn said there is room for more student involvement.

“We have over 100 members, but I wish there was more time. It’s hard because most members are a part of other clubs, ” Venjohn said.

The organization is student-led. Adults serve as mentors, but the emphasis is on on the students.

“They vote on officers who are elected. I just organize and provide whatever they need,” Norris said.

Together, Norris and VenJohn continue to foster a community within FCA, encouraging students to explore their faith while enjoying the friendship that comes with being part of a team.
